The Tasmanian Devil

The Tasmanian Devil is only found in the wild on the Australian state of Tasmania.

Following the extinction of the Thylacine, though small, became the largest carnivous marsupial. They are the size of a small dog.

The Tasmanian Devil got its name for its extremely loud and disturbing screech, its keen sense of smell, and its ferocity when eating.

The Tasmanian Devils were once thought of as a threat to livestock and therefore were hunted and killed. Today, the Tasmanian Devil is struggling to survive. Since the 1990s, their population has decreased due to the devil facial tumor disease. This disease causes tumors to form in the mouth, making it difficult for the animal to eat, eventually leading to death by starvation. This disease is spread by devils biting each other’s heads for food. In 2008, the Tasmanian Devil was declared endangered.

We must do everything we can to control this disease from killing off these precious animals.
